A bare metal cage in the corner breaks up a living room fast. We build this crate in an oak gray wood finish with the proportions of an end table, sized for mid sized dogs. It comes out of the box assembled, so you set it by the couch, drop in a pad and you are done.
You do not need a hex key or an empty evening for this build. The crate arrives put together in the box. Unfold the panels, latch the joints and place it against the wall.
The sides fold flat down over the base without loose bolts to track. When you need floor space back or want the crate in the trunk for the weekend, it collapses down in one piece.
The wide wooden top carries a table lamp, a stack of books or a coaster and mug. It matches wood tones in the room while giving the dog a dedicated corner beneath.
We mounted a small metal nameplate slot directly on the front panel. You can slide in a paper card with the dog name so the den looks settled into the living room.
