Two crates sitting side by side take over a living room. We built this wide wooden piece to gather two dogs under one solid top, with a center panel between them and barn doors that glide sideways so your floor stays open. Take the center panel out and it becomes one long run for a single dog.
Standard crate doors swing out and clip shins in tight walkways. We hung these doors on a top rail so they glide sideways along the face of the crate, staying flush with the frame even when fully open.
Two dogs each get their own door and floor space with the divider in place. If one dog needs the full run, pull the center panel out during assembly to leave one long room under the top.
The wooden top runs the full length of the piece, turning dog furniture into a surface for lamps, books, or a television. It sits low and wide enough to work behind a sofa or against an open wall.
Thick iron railings set into the wooden frame let light through while keeping dogs enclosed. Latches and top hooks secure each sliding door shut when the house settles down for the night.
