We build this crate to sit beside the living room sofa while holding up to a dog that pushes on wire cages. Thick steel tubes line the sides beneath a solid brown wood top, giving the room a sturdy side table and the dog a quiet corner.
Thick square iron tubes form the sides and doors rather than thin wire. The bars sit set into the wooden frame, giving the crate structural weight that stays put on bare floors.
Two slide latches secure the front door, with two more on the side door. Dogs that nose at single locks find both points of contact holding firm against the frame.
The side door panel mounts on either the left or right side during assembly. You choose which way it swings based on the room corner or the sofa arm beside it.
A small metal plate sits directly on the front frame. You can slide in a card with your dog name, write on it with chalk, or tuck in a photo.
