When a standard wire box buckles in the living room, steel is usually the next step. We framed this piece in heavy metal tubing and put a solid furniture board on top, so the crate stays in the main room as a console table. It takes an evening to bolt together, and it stays where you set it.

Heavy steel frame
We weld the main frame from thick steel tubing instead of thin wire. The front door shuts with two separate slide latches, and the round hole metal flooring sits flat across the base.
Rotating dish bracket
The front panel holds a meal bowl on a swing arm. You spin the dish outward to drop in dry kibble or water, then latch it back in place without unhooking the main entry door.
Top panel and access
A furniture board caps the crate to hold lamps and books, while a secondary top hatch lifts on hinges. You can reach straight down into the interior to drop bedding or clip on a lead.
Casters that lock
Steel pieces are heavy to drag across a rug. Four rolling wheels carry the frame out from the baseboard so you can vacuum underneath, and two step brakes hold the kennel stationary during the day.
