Some dogs test every joint on a standard wire frame until the welds give way. We built this crate with thick steel tubes under a solid wood top so it can sit in the living room like a proper console. It gives a strong dog a dedicated spot without banishing the crate to the garage.

Thick steel frame
We welded heavy gauge steel tubing into the side panels and doors. The frame holds its square shape under pressure, pairing dense metal bars with solid wood panels across the top and base.
Two sliding latches
Each door fastens with two separate slide locks rather than a single catch. The dual latches engage at the top and bottom of the steel door frame to keep the panel seated firmly in place.
Side door placement
You can hang the side door on either the left or right end during assembly. That choice lets you push the crate flush into a corner or turn it sideways behind a couch without blocking access.
Slide out base tray
The bottom pan pulls straight out from the front for washing, so you do not need to reach through the doors. A small metal nameplate sits centered on the front gate for your own label.
